Wendy Wasserstein, 1950-2006
by Hester Campbell, Customer Service Manager
Playwright Wendy Wasserstein, 55, died on January 30, 2006. She was a New Yorker, born in Brooklyn, and raised in Manhattan. She attended Mt. Holyoke College and earned graduate degrees from City College of New York and Yale University in creative writing and drama. Wasserstein said she started writing plays when she realized there weren't any reflecting 'the women I knew.' Funny, approachable, and beloved by those fortunate enough to meet her, she called herself a 'humanist' and her writing reflects some of the best about women in the latter half of the twentieth century.
