Nebula Awards: Best Novel

The Nebula Award for Best Novel is awarded by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA). Since 1965, active members of the organization have selected a winner from a list of six nominees. Past winners include genre favorites such as Greg Bear, Orson Scott Card, Samuel R. Delany, Joe Haldeman, Larry Niven and Frederick Pohl, as well as writers who have become mainstream such as Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, and Ursula K. Le Guin.

Seven writers have won the coveted prize twice, with Le Guin winning three times (The Left Hand of Darkness in 1969, The Dispossed in 1974, and Tehanu: The Last Book of Earthsea in 1990).

Winning titles that are considered classics in the field include: Dune (Frank Herbert 1965), Flowers for Algernon (Daniel Keyes 1966), The Left Hand of Darkness (Ursula K. Le Guin 1969), Ringworld (Larry Niven 1970), Rendezvous with Rama (Arthur C. Clarke 1973), Gateway (Frederick Pohl 1977), Neuromancer (William Gibson 1984), and Ender's Game (Orson Scott Card 1985).
