by Missy Dustin, Supervisor, Customer Service Support
Mystery writer Mickey Spillane died on July 17, 2006, at the age of 88. Spillane began his career as a comic book writer, and after World War II, moved into writing mystery/detective stories. Known for his spare, hard-boiled, often brutal prose, he wrote over a dozen books, featuring his hero, Mike Hammer. Many of these books were made into movies and later even a television series. The Spillane influence was wide-ranging: echoes of his style can be found in such diverse places as the crime novels of British writer Peter Cheney, and in Garrison Keillors' radio character, Guy Noir.
