In Memory of a Distinguished Colleague
By Nicki Carter, National Manager, Majors Academic Sales & Services
"Dear Colleagues" - that was how Dorothy Hill began her cover letters in A Majors Report. For more than 40 years Dorothy's career in medical librarianship was not only a benefit to those institutions in which she worked, but also of benefit to fellow librarians, patrons, and physicians and their patients.
Dorothy spent a large part of her life dedicated to creating "Selected Lists" of medical, nursing, and allied health titles. Those Lists are still greatly used today. J.A. Majors played a large part in coordinating and publishing the Lists, first for Al Brandon and later for Dorothy.
On September 4th, 2008 at 10am EDT in New York City, Dorothy Hill, retired Collection Development Librarian at Mount Sinai and co-editor of the Brandon/Hill Lists, passed away.
Her life exemplified a remarkable and wonderful attitude of service to small medical, nursing, and allied health libraries and the professionals who managed them. We honor and appreciate her tireless efforts, knowing she never asked for or expected thanks for her work. Farewell, Dear Colleague, may you rest in peace.
