YBP Award for Collection Services Awarded to Margaret Ferguson
By Robyn Wright, Director of Sales, Australia and New Zealand
The YBP Award for Collection Services has been offered since 2001 and recognises the contribution made in New Zealand libraries by staff in the areas of collection development, collection management, acquisitions and cataloguing. The award is presented during the LIANZA Conference and includes a cheque for $2000 donated by YBP Library Services.
The winner of the Award for 2009 was Margaret Ferguson. Margaret was presented with the cheque and a citation at this year’s Conference held in Christchurch in October.
Margaret is Head of Collection Services at the Victoria University of Wellington Library - Te Whare Wananga o te Upoko o te Ika a Maui, situated in the capital city across four campuses. Her role is largely strategic with specific responsibility for providing high level management advice on all aspects of collection services.
Margaret’s impressive application, her commitment to the library profession, her excellent leadership qualities and her ability to manage projects effectively and deliver results, together with the huge contribution she has made within Collection Services at VUW, made her a worthy winner of the Award for 2009.
The New Zealand Library Association Inc. (trading as LIANZA) is the professional organization for the New Zealand library and information services sector and membership of LIANZA is a requirement of the Award. The LIANZA Conference is held annually at venues around New Zealand.
Nominations are judged by an independent panel who recommend a recipient to YBP. The judges this year were:
Barbara Garriock – President LIANZA 2009
Anahera Morehu – TRW Tumuaki-Elect
Lynda Hodge – Otago/Southland Councillor
Nicki Moen – Aoraki Councillor
Marilyn Fordyce – 2002 winner (Information Resources Manager at the University of Otago)
In 2010, the LIANZA Conference will be held in Dunedin in the South Island. LIANZA will be celebrating its centenary year so the 2010 conference will have special significance.
