This section is comprised of annual selections for the same topic each year in the same month, with the exception of July. These lists will feature titles considered to be Essential or Recommended works in each of the fields by YBP's subject-specialist profilers, mostly at the general-academic and advanced-academic content levels. Much careful thought goes into the finished lists, employing the entire array selection criteria available to YBP customers in any book description, as well as critical judgment on the part of the people gathering the titles. The intention is for the resulting much-winnowed lists to be useful selection tools for selectors working in a wide variety of settings, from small liberal arts colleges and all public libraries up through the largest research library. January: Women's Studies Selections of titles timed to aid librarians in collecting works for Women's History Month in March. February: Environmental Studies Includes titles published in the previous year, intended as an aid in preparing for any special events related to Earth Day in April. March: Developing Countries Each year, YBP will produce a list featuring titles related to developing nations, which are profiled by YBP's subject special bibliographers during the previous twelve months. All aspects of developing nations will be considered, especially socio-economic concerns such as trade agreements and micro-financing, along with relevant works related to historical and environmental issues. April: Communications/Media This set of titles will include titles related to Journalism, Mass Media, general language studies as related to Communications. May: Science and Technology in Society Features the best Sci-Tech titles with philosophical, anthropological, ethical, or sociological concerns published in the previous twelve months. June: Business/Management Staff at YBP will sift through the slews of business guidebooks to find a very selective set of recently-published titles in this area. July: Miscellaneous Topics Some possible areas, which will be treated at YBP include: hospitality industry, anthropology, basic studies, gender studies, multicultural studies, ESL, language/linguistics, ethics and veterinary medicine. Please contact us if there is a topic that you would like to see included here. August: General Reference Works This list features an annual selection of reference works appropriate for any general collection. September: Computer Science Not to be confused with Mauer's Computer Guidebooks. Dave Mauer will be making the selections but they are higher-level, less practical works than his studied, well-thought-out selection of guidebooks, in an attempt to spare librarians from having to sort through the thousands of computer guidebooks published each year just to find the few necessary Computer Science gems. October: U.S. Presidential Politics and History Timed to coincide with presidential elections, the list features titles published in the previous year which are related to historical and biographical information about all U.S. presidents and first ladies, the evolution of the presidency in America, as well as titles about political trends related to the current president. November: Biotechnology and Nanotechnology Twelve months'-worth of the best titles published in these topics. December: African-American Studies Selections of African-American History titles published in the previous year.
