AP Plus!

Most libraries with a YBP Approval Plan or Slip Plan take advantage of our AP Plus! service, which widens their coverage to include valuable books from publishers we don't routinely treat. These are books handpicked by our buyers as they monitor review media, scan promotional material from many hundreds of publishers, and pursue the suggestions and inquiries of YBP customers and staff.

Through AP Plus! we are able to alert libraries to exceptional books, often very timely ones, from new or specialized publishers, or from small publishers who may release only a book or two. We've added some publishers to the permanent YBP Approval Plan List after having first seen their books on AP Plus!

A few publishers whose books we've treated through AP Plus! include the Aboriginal Studies Press, Harvard Education Press, Porcupine's Quill Press, Dafina Books, Brick Books, Blast Books, and, to further illustrate our scope, the Lute Society of America, whose History of the Lute from Antiquity to the Renaissance was acquired by nearly 100 libraries via AP Plus! We treat approximately 500 titles per year this way, touching most major subject areas.

Libraries may choose to receive either books or slips for AP Plus! titles (or may decline coverage). Slips coverage is the default. Titles are always screened against a library profile's normal subject and non-subject parameters. We offer these books under normal YBP terms for discount and returns. Our bibliographic records include the AP Plus! designation in a notes field, visible in GOBI.
