Sarah DolanSarah Dolan is a Faculty Librarian at the Anselmo Library at Quincy College in Quincy, Massachusetts, a position she has held since 2008. Sarah knew from the beginning that she wanted to become a librarian because she had a passion for research and learning and wanted to follow in the footsteps of her mother, who is also a librarian. After acquiring a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, she continued her studies and received an MLIS from Simmons College in Boston. Sarah's library science career began when she took a job as a Librarian Intern at the Boston Museum of Science while pursuing her MLIS degree from Simmons College. She then moved on to become an Assistant Librarian at Mount Ida College in Newton, Massachusetts. In Sarah's current role as Faculty Librarian at Quincy College, she is responsible for assisting students with finding electronic books and journals for their research projects. When asked what Sarah enjoyed most about being a librarian, she replied, "Helping students with their research. Since, we are a small college library, you get to know lots of students by name. I love when they come back and tell me how they got an A on their research paper!" When not assisting students with research projects, Sarah can be spotted helping students with access to computers in the library and hosting bibliographic instruction classes. Sarah's most important related accomplishment during the past year was helping to create an Information Literacy module that fits into the First Year Seminar course offered at Quincy College. "Our librarians are able to connect with students when they are freshmen, and give them the skills they need to successfully complete their research projects. It's important to get students to understand that there are better research tools than Google." In response to the future of community college libraries, Sarah emphasized the importance of her library growing along with the collage by expanding their electronic resources. Since, they are a commuter college, it's very important that their students have online access to the library 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. When Sarah is not busy working at the library, you can find her reading and spending time hiking with her pug. |
