As the Fiscal Year Closes - How Can Baker & Taylor and YBP Library Services Help Your Library?

With a majority of academic libraries wrapping up ordering for the fiscal year, there are many details to keep in mind: checking on backordered titles, making sure that the last of your budget is spent, looking ahead to costs and funds for the new fiscal year... the list is endless! There must be a way to better streamline all these processes and help you fulfill those year end goals.

Baker & Taylor and YBP both offer a variety of tools and resources that can lighten your load during this busy time, with tools to use on your own or with the aid of your customer service or sales representatives.

• Something to keep an eye out for are the Library Support Center's biweekly eblasts, which provide in-stock selection lists on a variety of subjects. To sign up for these emails, please send an email to sales@ybp.com.
• Selection lists from the Community College site and Health Science Libraries site offer academic titles for end of year spending: slightly larger than the eblast selection lists, and with a high percentage of in-stock titles and a variety of subject areas and formats available, these lists could be the solution to your library's needs.
• Core 1000: YBP has developed, designed and implemented this service to aid academic libraries in assessing current collections and to allow smaller academic libraries the opportunity to benefit from participation with a seasoned vendor in collection development. These titles have all been deemed essential to a library's collection by our book-in-hand profiling department; you can use this list to provide high quality content to your patrons.
• Undergraduate Curriculum: Compiled from review sources, these lists provide you with tools to develop comprehensive, up-to-date collections that fully support your institution's mission, faculty and students.
• With our Adult Awards and Children's Awards programs, you can ensure quality content by receiving books or notifications for award-winning titles throughout the year. You can also see what titles were award winners when viewing bibliographic information in GOBI.
• New Title Reports are widely used by academic librarians in their budgeting and planning process. These reports show new title output and price data broken down by subject and by publisher, with overall totals.

For Baker & Taylor customers, backorder reports through Online Customer Support provide information on which titles your library may still be waiting on; you can also view any invoices, orders, statements and basic account information. For YBP customers, a Library Activity Search or Open Order Report in GOBI can provide information on any titles that your library is still waiting to receive; an Expenditure Report allows your library to help budget for specific subjects for next year. Available under the Search and Reports tabs.

• If you'd like any specific titles researched to see when they will most likely be available, inquire with your sales or customer service representatives; their research will provide you with a better estimate of what titles will be available to your library before the end of the fiscal year.
• If you are worried about losing your book budget before you are able to spend it, ask about a pro forma invoice, which allows for the funds to be allocated now and drawn from in the future to purchase titles.
• We also offer deposit accounts through YBP and Baker & Taylor, which allow you to place your funds in a secure location and draw from those funds when you're ready to start purchasing.
• Inquire about our shelf-ready processing and cataloging services. With so much to worry about already, having us do the book processing and major cataloging elements can free up your time for other endeavors.
• We can also provide custom selection lists to fit your library's criteria; this allows for quick use of end of year funds, while still providing high quality titles to your patrons.
