Cancellation Policy
A library may request to cancel a standing order at any time. However, if a volume is en route to YBP from the publisher, or if YBP has already prepaid the publisher for a volume, then the cancellation will not go into effect until after that volume has been supplied to the library.
Every-Other-Year Service
A library may request to receive a book every other year (cycle 2), every three years (cycle 3), every four years (cycle 4), or even every five years, against a standing order, for the sake of meeting their budgetary needs. YBP's only limitation to this service applies when the library requesting it is the only library on standing order to receive that series.
Duplication Control
YBP employs three primary methods of preventing the shipment of unwanted duplicates to a library:
Blocking an ISBN-If a library receives a gift copy or a volume from their previous vendor against a cancelled order, YBP can block that ISBN from being supplied again, as long as the criteria listed above in our cancellation policy are met.
Blocking an Approval Plan-A step in placing any library standing order is to block the corresponding approval plan from receiving volumes within that series.
Profiled Decision Support (PDS)-An integral component of YBP's computerized PDS is the system's ability to determine if the ISBN it is processing has already been received by the library. If it finds that a library has already received that ISBN on another account, it then checks for any overrides or exceptions. If there are no overrides, it will not allocate that ISBN again to that library. If there are no exceptions, then a manual check will be performed and the library may be queried by their customer service bibliographer.
Paper Preferred
It is YBP's policy to always supply continuation accounts with cloth editions. However, there are two exceptions to this rule:
If only a paper edition is available, we will supply the paper edition without querying the library.
A library may request paper editions at the account level, making them a "paper-preferred" customer, or at the individual series level, allowing them to receive paper editions for certain series.
In either case, there are limitations to the paper-preferred service. YBP can only supply paper editions for series in which the paper and cloth editions are published simultaneously, and when YBP has made a decision to profile both editions for its customers.
Single Volume Supplied on a Continuations Account
For whatever reason, a library may place an order on their continuations account for a single volume only, without also having to place a standing order for future volumes within that series.
