Continuations
Continuations -- whether annual or irregular, numbered or unnumbered, monographic or non-monographic
books in series-- all require special attention from both libraries and their suppliers. YBP manages
over 48,000 active series titles. By transferring continuation orders to YBP, libraries avoid the
service charges often imposed by subscription agents, while taking advantage of enhanced services.
Continuations in electronic format are available through YBP's eReference Works.
As library budgets are stretched further and further, maximizing purchasing power becomes crucial.
YBP helps libraries reduce the cost of continuation orders.
Why Use YBP?
YBP's close ties with publishers, combined with our own highly-developed automated systems,
ensure that the special challenges of serial publications are met. And, YBP starts right at the
beginning. Through consultation with each customer, we work to develop a customized plan for
transferring continuation orders. Libraries begin to benefit immediately from competitive discounts,
duplication control, and access to YBP's online series file via GOBI.
Customers also receive YBP's responsive, accurate service. Once orders are transferred,
our expert staff work with each customer to identify and fill gaps in coverage, and then
provids ongoing status reports and updates on any changes in publication. Click here for
more information on our transfer service.

Duplication Control
YBP employs several methods to prevent the shipment of unwanted duplicates to a library, blocking
individual volumes at the ISBN level, blocking series set up as standing orders from also
shipping on a library’s approval plan, and actively checking every title in a series before
it is shipped as firm order, standing order, or approval book, to confirm it has not previously
been shipped. Though we employ sophisticated duplication control, libraries may opt to receive
multiple copies of a continuations title or to allow duplication for particular volumes or series.
Electronic Series
Increasingly, YBP's customers are opting to receive electronic versions of series, particularly for
reference titles, annuals, indexes, and the like. YBP’s electronic services continue to grow daily,
and we can typically support electronic series from our standard academic publishers. For more

Additional Services
-
Every-other-year: A library may request to receive an annual every other year,
every three years, every four years, or even every five years, against a standing
order, for the sake of meeting their budgetary needs. YBP's only limitation to
this service applies when the library requesting it is the only library on standing
order to receive that series.
-
Single volumes: For whatever reason, a library may place an order on their continuations
account for a single volume only, without also having to place a standing order for future
volumes within that series.
Titles Not Available
The principle guiding YBP's continuations unit is to supply a wide range of books in series that can
be purchased, tracked, and shipped efficiently and effectively to our customers. Certain serials do
not allow us to maintain this standard of service, and so, there are types of publications that are
generally not handled on continuation at YBP. Click for more information.
