Continuations - Transfer Services

YBP's Continuations Transfer Services are designed to assist the library in establishing continuation orders through YBP with minimal disruption. Key features include proven project management and responsive communications with an assigned liaison. By offering a variety of options, YBP can customize each transfer to meet the library's particular needs. YBP works closely with the library to make the project a success.

What Can Libraries Expect from YBP?
Our experienced and professional staff will provide assistance in both the project's design and management, including:

  • A specifically assigned serials liaison to ensure responsive communication

  • Coordination with approval plans

  • Online access to YBP's series file, via GOBI, for up-to-the-minute status information and email messaging

  • Agreed upon procedure to capture any missed volumes

  • Elimination of virtually all publisher fulfillment errors by screening every book before shipping; this means no drop-ships

What Does YBP Expect in Return?

  • A staff person designated to work with YBP's serials liaison during the transfer period

  • A firm policy to return shipments on canceled orders to the previous vendor

Continuations Transfer Procedures
Every library has unique requirements for the transfer of their continuation orders. To meet these needs, YBP's serials liaison works closely with librarians to choose from the available transfer options and customize any specific procedures important to the library.

Key among these procedures are:

  • Development of a list of the library's continuation orders, including series title, publisher, and last volume received (or last volume paid for, if different from last received)

  • Review of library's list to identify titles that cannot be supplied (including cessations and completed series), discrepancies (titles/format changes, publisher changes, volume inconsistencies), titles that cannot be identified (in need of further information), and any missing volumes

  • Confirmation of a predetermined date or particular volume/issue when the library's cancellations are to go into effect with their previous vendor, depending on the customer's preference

  • Confirmation that orders have been canceled with the previous vendor prior to the initiation of new orders by YBP

  • Providing access to YBP's online series file to review your orders electronically

  • Providing an option to order future continuation titles electronically, as well as reviewing the procedures for mailing paper purchase orders

Transfer Options Available
YBP offers flexible options through which a library can transfer their continuation orders to YBP. Each reflects a varying degree of involvement by the library, and further customization of any option can be discussed with a YBP serials liaison.

All options require that returns of duplicate shipments be made to the library's previous vendor. Exceptions may be made at YBP's discretion, and of course, exceptions are always made if both of the duplicate shipments originated from YBP's facilities. Any volume wrongly shipped by YBP can also be returned immediately.
