GOBI®
YBP revolutionized bookselling to academic libraries when in 1996 we were the first bookseller to offer a database on the World Wide Web. GOBI (Global Online Bibliographic Information), YBP's complete online interface for searching, selecting, ordering, and reporting is still the leader, today used by academic libraries throughout the world.
GOBI, available to all YBP customers, supports every step in online workflows.
GOBI users can:
- Quickly perform simple or complex searches of a fully integrated database of over 2 million titles from the US, UK, and around the world. New titles and information updates are added to GOBI continuously, every day.
- See at a glance their own library's activity on any title, including activity and duplication control on linked alternate editions for paper-cloth, US-UK, and print-eBook versions.
- View tables of contents, jacket images, and reviews.
- Search local holdings through openURL queries from GOBI.
- Mainstream eBook selection and purchasing.
- Place rush orders that can ship to the library the same day.
- Handle potential selections online in ways that improve on paper slips. Attach notes, sort and re-sort, send to others via email, or save in personal or shared folders where the most current bibliographic, status, price, and local activity information is always displayed in real time.
- View statements and invoices.
- Search, create, cancel, or edit standing orders online.
- Create customized Peer Groups and Peer Reports to see title decisions and buying patterns at other libraries.
GOBI libraries can:
- Create highly efficient library-wide workflows that tie together all steps in selection and acquisition of monographs and standing orders.
- Build profiles for remote selectors, such as teaching faculty, and alert them to pertinent new titles with automated email lists or links.
- Analyze approval or expenditure activity with the most complete reporting package available.
- Coordinate buying activity with partner libraries through GobiTween views and Consortial Reports.
GobiGlossary®
GobiAlerts: An email service designed to notify teaching faculty or other selectors of newly published titles. Customizable, the alerts are defined by subject area in combination with other parameters, and can be electronically interactive, or viewed off line.
GobiLink:Incorporates a variety of technical service solutions to facilitate GOBI ordering by eliminating the need to "double key" orders. After ordering in GOBI, YBP outputs daily batches of order confirmation records in a standard MARC format, for upload to the library's local system. At the point that orders are filled and books are supplied, the order confirmation records can be overlaid by cataloging records.
GobiExport: Rather than place orders via GOBI, some libraries prefer that selections be made in GOBI by tagging (selecting) items there. These selected items are exported via GobiExport, in standard MARC format for load to the library's system for local order creation.
GobiSmart: Allows for customization of the GOBI ordering screen. Unused data fields can be eliminated, and data fields can be renamed to match the library's specific intent. Most importantly, GobiSmart provides validation of data elements at point of order (fund, location, etc.), saving key strokes and eliminating keying errors.
GobiTween: A shared view of title-level local history designed primarily for consortia and other cooperating libraries, allowing libraries to have greater control over duplication within the consortium. This option allows member libraries to see which of their peer institutions have purchased an item, who has it on order, etc.
