ISBN-13
April 2007
YBP is fully ISBN-13 compliant. Because the local systems of some of our customers are not yet ready to support ISBN-13s, we have not forced any customers to switch to ISBN-13s. For the immediate future, customers will remain defaulted to ISBN-10s until they tell us to switch them to ISBN-13s. All customers who are ready to accept and transact in ISBN-13s are encouraged to switch as soon as possible, by contacting their Customer Service representatives.
Here is a bit more detail on YBP’s ISBN-13 implementation and settings that must be updated for ISBN-13. Customer Service will adjust the settings for all of the following when notified by the library:
- GOBI can be searched by ISBN-10 or 13. In bibliographic displays, users will see ISBN-10s until they update their ISBN preferences under Options/My Preferences. Each User can adjust his or her preferences, or YBP Customer Service can assist with switching all GOBI logons for a particular account.
- GOBI Open URL output will be defaulted to ISBN-10 until the library’s GOBI Administrator adjusts the preference in the Open URL setup information in Library/GOBI Administration/Library Prefs.
- ISBNs for Printed Products (invoices, status reports, notification slips, eInvoices, eStatus reports) are defaulted to ISBN-10. Customer Service will update the library’s account settings to ISBN-13 when notified by the library.
- MARC records: ISBNs in cataloging records (YBP Cataloging or OCLC PromptCat) are not affected – they will be delivered however they appear in the cataloging record. ISBNs in GOBI MARC records (EOCRs, GobiExport records) are defaulted to ISBN-10 until YBP is notified to switch to ISBN-13.
