YBP President Gary Shirk Announces Retirement

It is with mixed emotions that YBP announces the forthcoming retirement of Gary Shirk, our President and Chief Operating Officer. For the better part of three decades, Gary has been a major guiding force for our organization and his many contributions to YBP and the customers we serve cannot possibly be overstated. The contributions he has made will continue to influence and guide YBP for many years to come.

While we will certainly miss Gary, we also deeply share his enthusiasm and anticipation of a well deserved retirement to pursue his many other interests. Please read Gary’s statement to our customers (below) and join us in wishing him a wonderful and enriching retirement as well as heartfelt appreciation for his many contributions to both the bookselling and library professions.

Dear friends and colleagues:

After over 36 years in our profession and 24 years at YBP (including 10 years at its helm), I am writing to announce that I will retire effective September 19th. I, like so many of my contemporaries in the profession, have reached the point in my career when it is appropriate to consider retirement. Due to the generosity of my company in the past and particularly this year, I am able to exercise that option.

In the years I’ve been at YBP, I’ve been blessed to work with many of the best people in our industry. I’ve enjoyed working with YBP’s world-class professionals, with the finest suppliers and, of course, the best customer group in the world. I am thankful for the understanding and support of progressive company ownership and staff at every level. It’s been a wonderful experience that I’ll cherish for the rest of my life.

I want to assure you that the company has never been as strong and secure as it is today, guided by the most experienced and knowledgeable management team in the book business. While continuing to deliver the best performance in the industry, backed by unparalleled customer service, YBP—supported at every level by B&T—is fully committed on meeting your needs in the years to come.

Farewell and best wishes,

Gary Shirk
