Retrospective Collection Building
Libraries seeking to support new curriculum offerings, target perceived weaknesses or gaps in a collection, update older material in the science and technology areas, or expend new funding appropriations often initiate retrospective collection development projects. YBP can help by creating finely tuned selection lists in a variety of formats, customized to meet each library's unique requirements.
Sample parameters for creating such a list can be based on titles profiled in various subject areas or YBP standard profiling book descriptors. Examples of requests or combinations of parameters might include:
Books from a given imprint
Books within a given imprint date
Books focused on a specific geographic area
Books aimed at a specified academic level
Selections can also be based on published subject lists such as the Brandon-Hill list of health science titles. YBP sales records can be used as the basis for identifying those titles of most interest to academic libraries.
A YBP bibliographer is on staff with expertise in querying the collections database. Customer Service Bibliographers and Sales staff also assist in identifying and formulating the parameters of each library's request.
