OCLC WorldCat Selection

YBP and OCLC have partnered to offer our mutual customers the option of reviewing current notification slips via OCLC’s WorldCat Selection (WCS) service. WorldCat Selection was originally developed at Cornell University as ITSO CUL, an internal tool bringing together notification slips from their various vendors. This way, selectors can work within one database, and acquisitions can work with standardized ordering data, rather than using several different vendor databases, with their varying formats and capabilities. OCLC then acquired ITSO CUL and began offering it to other libraries, as well as widening its scope to encompass even more vendors.

YBP outputs data to WCS for a number of customers on a weekly basis. We include all of the profiling data normally delivered as part of a GOBI notification slip, as well as a link from WCS back into GOBI, so that selectors can consult reviews, check GobiTween or Peer History, or search alternate editions. Selections downloaded from WCS and sent to YBP as orders from the library’s local system are processed smoothly and efficiently. Please note that WCS currently only works for notification slips, not other types of orders a library may be placing; for those, the library will continue to use their current ordering method, either within GOBI or their local system.

Additional details regarding WCS can be found on OCLC's website. For more information, or to set up service, please contact your YBP Sales Representative or Customer Service Bibliographer.
