YBP eBook Cataloging
YBP provides cataloging support for any eBooks ordered as individual titles, or invoiced as part of a library's eBook approval plan service. These records conform to the Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC's) MARC Record Guide for Monograph Aggregator Vendors. YBP's records contain library-specific URLs as well as other local customization. As the standards and formatting for eBook cataloging records continue to evolve, with the movement now toward provider-neutral records, and the cleanup of the eBook records in OCLC's database, YBP's records will continue to evolve. Because the eBook marketplace is in a period of transition, we keep our eBook cataloging capabilities as flexible and customizable as possible, to accommodate each library’s particular needs of the moment.
YBP's records may be derived from records for the print format, but are created by professional catalogers and completely customizable. The records are 100% full-level, including classification. Records are delivered when the eBooks are invoiced, so libraries do not have to wait to populate their catalog with more complete bibliographic data and proper URLs. In addition to the standard URL, YBP can add proxy server information, access notes, and other local details to the records. The records may also bear YBP control numbers, which allow for the matching and overlay of brief bibliographic records loaded at point of order, as well as local data such as purchase order numbers or invoice information. Because of this, the acquisition, receipt, and cataloging of monographic eBooks can be incorporated into a library's standard monographic workflow, without creating an exceptional practice.
Further, YBP can supply monographic records for eBook titles sold as packages or sets. Whether the library chooses to purchase a particular eCollection through YBP or not, we can easily deliver cataloging for the contents of the eCollection, including new titles as released. Records can also be delivered to multiple libraries within a consortium. The records can be customized to the same level as other eBook cataloging records. This service is available for particular eCollections, in some cases dating back to 2005. Please contact YBP if you have questions about specific publishers, eCollections, or YBP eBook Cataloging services in general.
